Arlo T. Bates was a local businessman who owned the Bates Jewelry Store. He was very active in many different community events and fundraisers around Calais for many years. The Arlo T. Bates award is presented in his honor to a single volunteer or a volunteer organization in recognition of their time and effort dedicated towards serving and improving the quality of life in the St. Croix Valley.
